The INGV-USGS (United States Geological Survey) bilateral meeting will be held on Monday 15 June at the headquarters of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) in Rome.
This is the third in a series of meetings that the two institutes have organized over the last two years, with the aim of consolidating the existing scientific collaboration relationship, already formalized with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed in 1988, finalizing the development of specific joint activities in various research fields in which both institutes actively operate.
There will be a session dedicated to each of the three research sectors of INGV: volcanological (Volcanic Processes and Hazards), seismological (Seismological Processes and Hazards) and environmental (Environmental Research and Processes). To these are added two specific sessions, one dedicated to satellite observations (Earth Observation Data), and the other to scientific dissemination and training (Scientific Outreach and Educational Activities). The activities of the Volcanoes, Earthquakes and Environment Structures of the INGV are moving in this direction, respectively under the direction of Paolo Papale, Claudio Chiarabba and Fabio Florido, in synergy in the various fields of competence with the American colleagues of the USGS, Charles Mandeville and Michael Blampied, with whom they will be moderators in the different sessions during the meeting.
The proceedings were opened by the President of INGV, Stefano Gresta, the Head of the Office of International Programs for the USGS, Ingrid Verstraeten, and the manager responsible for INGV's satellite infrastructures, Fabrizia Buongiorno. The meeting will conclude with a plenary session in which the general conclusions will be discussed.
