
The celebrations for the twentieth anniversary of the Arezzo branch of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) will take place on Friday 21 May.
The INGV Seismological Observatory of Arezzo (OSCAR) is located in the elegant Villa Severi of the city, once the residence of the Arezzo mathematician Francesco Severi from whom it takes its name.
Focus of research by OSCAR researchers are geological studies of active tectonics, seismic monitoring of geothermal areas of Tuscany, as referent of the INGV Subsoil Monitoring Center (CMS-INGV), as well as the technical-scientific commitment for of civil protection. OSCAR has also done its utmost in didactic-informative initiatives aimed at students for a better knowledge of the territory and its geological peculiarities.
All the events of OSCAR's twentieth anniversary will be streamed live on the INGV Eventi YouTube channel from the Villa Severi Conference Hall.
The event will be introduced by a conference by the President of INGV, Carlo Doglioni, on the topic of Apennine geodynamics and seismicity, with particular reference to Tuscany.
The Authorities of the Tuscany Region, the Province and the Municipality of Arezzo will intervene to extend their greetings and the day will come alive with researchers from the Arezzo Observatory and other locations who will present their main activities.
