It was held at the University of Milan – La Statale (UNIMI) il Kickoff meeting of the National Chapter of CoARA, the network involving approximately sixty Italian institutions, including universities, research institutes, and associations, committed to reforming research evaluation systems.
The meeting was organized by the coordinators of the 2026-2027 National Chapter, Monica Di Luca (UNIMI) and Giuliana Rubbia (National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology - INGV), and attracted a total of around one hundred participants, both in person and online.
In addition to the presentation of the work programme for the next two years, important issues were addressed, such as the experimentation of the narrative CV (National Research Council - CNR), biases in evaluation procedures (CoARA WG TIER), and the responsible use of metrics and indicatorsi (CoARA WG RMI). All the interventions registered a strong interest from the participants who intervened with questions and comments. The following were illustrated in detail: work packages and task foreseen in the work programme for the next two years and the first operational availability has been collected.
Il work program provides targeted actions to support all member institutions in the development and implementation of their respective Action Plan, in monitoring progress and aligning with international thematic Working Groups.
The plan also includes strengthening exchange with other national chapters and disseminating information best practice between institutions and research organizations, including through the organization of dedicated webinars. A strategic action will finally be aimed at involvement of the Ministry of University and Research and the Ministry of Health, with the aim of promoting greater coherence between bottom-up initiatives developed by institutions and national research evaluation and funding policies.
In greetings, INGV President Fabio Florindo wished good work to the coordinators and institutions involved, and He emphasized how co-coordinating the Italian National Chapter represents a significant opportunity for INGV: actively contributing to the paradigm shift in research evaluation policies, both nationally and internationally.
A change that requires strategic vision, but also a strong foundation in the daily practices of research and the work of scientific communities.
