The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) was awarded seventh place in the ranking drawn up by the magazine Nature as an institution of excellence in international collaborations and scientific production. The Nature Index Collaborations 2016 report, compiled since 2014 by a group of industry experts, monitored the collaborations between the best 1 national and international organizations from 2015 September 31 to 2016 August 50. The results place INGV at the top of institutions in the scientific world in the "Earth and environmental sciences" ranking, where NASA is in first place. In the analyzed period, INGV undertook 68,59% of international collaborations and 31,41% national ones. The top three foreign bodies in terms of number of collaborations are the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), the US Geological Survey (USGS) and Durham University - United Kingdom. The University of Rome "La Sapienza", the University of Palermo and the University of Perugia are instead in the Top 3 for national collaborations.
