More than 90 scientists and professionals from 19 countries and operating in the disciplines of geophysics, seismic and geotechnical engineering will meet in L'Aquila from 4 to 12 March, in the regional hall of the Hemicycle of the Abruzzo Region to follow various appointments, also organized within the European project Seismology and Earthquake Engineering Research Infrastructure Alliance for Europe (SERA, http://www.sera-eu.org/en/home/), in collaboration with the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the Institut des Sciences de la Terre (ISTerre, France), the Institute of Earth and Environmental Science (Potsdam, Germany) and the Abruzzo Region.
The scientific programme, which also includes interventions by INGV experts, is divided into three appointments: the Ambient Vibration Techniques for Site Characterization course is scheduled from 4 to 9 March, dedicated to learning and using vibration analysis techniques environmental seismic for the seismic characterization of the territory; the workshop Recent Advanced Techniques for site Characterization will follow on 9 and 10 March where international experts will discuss the most advanced analysis methods.
The event will end with the SERA Workshop Strong motion site characterisation, scheduled for Monday 11 and Tuesday 12, where the guidelines on the characterization of site effects and the planning of future activities related to permanent seismic networks in Europe will be discussed.
It should be noted that on Wednesday 6 March from 10.00 to 13.00, as part of the training course, 12 seismic stations will be installed in the green area facing the basilica of Collemaggio, in order to acquire recordings of environmental seismic vibrations to apply the analysis techniques illustrated during the course.
