On the occasion of XIX Week of Scientific and Technological Culture the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology promotes two initiatives aimed at children and teenagers: a competition aimed at primary schools for the creation of the INGV school calendar 2010, And a photographic competition dedicated to first and second grade secondary school students. The theme

The subject chosen for the competition? Planet Earth again this year.
The United Nations General Assembly, at the initiative of UNESCO, proclaimed the 2007-2009 International Year of Planet Earth, inviting the whole community? international scientific community to promote in-depth study and discussion initiatives. Within this great theme and with the help of your teachers, we propose you to use your creativity? and sensitivity? to create a message, a promotion of Planet Earth.

The title: Precious Earth

Precious Earth why? our existence completely depends on Planet Earth, we have evolved on it and we are part of it and we will continue to be so if we manage to maintain a dynamic balance between sustainable life and the Earth ecosystem.
The earth ? Precious also why? source of energy. Our energy needs are growing at an alarming rate. The continuous demand for energy resources has led in many cases to the reduction of natural reserves. The alteration of the natural climatic cycle of the planet requires for the future their responsible and efficient use and in parallel the promotion and development of alternative energy sources of which our planet? potentially rich.

2010 Calendar Competition Regulations
What to do to participate in the competition for the INGV 2010 calendar?
The 'Precious Earth' contest? open to all primary school students and requires the production of drawings, completed by comments, slogans or nursery rhymes inspired by the theme of the competition.

The originals must be sent no later than 30th June 2009 a:

All entries must be in A4 format (21x29,7) cm, on a sheet without lines and squares and must bear the following data in block capitals on the back:
Name and surname of the participant
class and section
Name, address, telephone and fax number of the school.
Name and surname of the teacher
Home address if attending privately

? It is important that the designs arrive intact and without creases. The designs will be selected on the basis of originality, spontaneity and and production autonomy and will be part of the INGV calendar for the 2010 school year. The documents received will not be returned and will become property? of INGV, which can? use them in scientific publications and presentations, both in print and on the web, linked to all its initiatives.

Copies of the 'Terra Preziosa' calendar will be sent to all participating classes and schools who request them.


Photo Contest Regulations 2010

What to do to participate in the photo contest?
The 'Terra Preziosa' competition, open to all first and second grade secondary school students, requires the production of one or more? photographs inspired by the theme of the competition. The deadline for participation, both for schools and for private individuals, is ? expected no later than 30 June 2009.

The photos may be accompanied by a description or a comment expressing their relevance. The original must be produced in JPEG format.

Resolutions can be as follows:

72dpi 3264x2448 pixels (115,15x86,3cm)

150dpi 1772x1178 pixels (15x10cm)

300dpi 1772x1178 pixels (15x10cm)

The photographs can be sent on digital support to:

A selection of photographs will come published on the site www.ingv.it where will it be? set up a voting system Online.
The most images voted will be exhibited in a photographic exhibition. All the photographs received will become the property of INGV, which can? use them in the context of scientific dissemination, both in print and on the web.

Educational material will come sent to all participating classes and schools who request it.
