L'Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia created the Center for Seismology and Seismic Engineering in Irpinia from a program agreement between MIUR and INGV using funds from Law 488/92.
The program ? started in 2002 and since then the Center has worked to achieve two fundamental objectives:
* favor the development of observation systems, whose operation? ? strictly preparatory to research in all areas of geophysics and ? support to the Civil Protection;
* develop new research methods in the crucial sector of seismic engineering.
The Center therefore arises as a reality? of excellence: in recent years it has allowed the installation and optimization of seismic and geodetic monitoring networks throughout southern Italy.
The construction of the permanent headquarters, ? was completed a few months ahead of schedule and with significant savings on budgeted costs.
