The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology has created the Center for Seismology and Seismic Engineering in Irpinia from a program agreement between MIUR and INGV using the funds of law 488/92.

The program ? started in 2002 and since then the Center has worked to achieve two fundamental objectives:

* favor the development of observation systems, whose operation? ? strictly preparatory to research in all areas of geophysics and ? support to the Civil Protection;

* develop new research methods in the crucial sector of seismic engineering.

The Center therefore arises as a reality? of excellence: in recent years it has allowed the installation and optimization of seismic and geodetic monitoring networks throughout southern Italy.

The construction of the permanent headquarters, ? was completed a few months ahead of schedule and with significant savings on budgeted costs.

Speakers include:

Guido Bertolaso, Undersecretary to the Prime Minister and Director of the Department of Civil Protection, will inaugurate? the center.

Ortensio Zecchino, right? Minister of the University and Research and Enzo Boschi, President of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology
