They were 3792 the projects presented to the Ministry of Education, the University? and Research (MIUR) under the FIRB funding program (Fund for Basic Research Investments) young people "Future in Research", were approved 105.
Between these ? the project entitled: Multi-hazard quantification with the Bayesian approach: a case study for the city's natural hazards? of Naples. Coordinator: Dr. Jacopo Selva of INGV.
The project that falls under line 1 proposed by the Ministry, or for young researchers aged under 32 and unstructured, obtained a MIUR loan of 610.600 euros.
Summary of the Project
The purpose of this project? develop a quantitative and objective method for analyzing the complex of risks that threaten a given area. To this end, we intend to develop an innovative Bayesian multi-risk method (ByMuR) which aims to address two fundamental aspects: the parallel, homogeneous and coordinated management of risks (multi-risk approach) and a complete treatment of the uncertainties associated with the estimates of risk (Bayesian approach). The ByMuR model will be? general and applicable to all possible risks, natural and otherwise, and in any area.
The ByMuR method will come then applied to the estimation of natural risks in the medium and long term (5, 10 and 50 years) in the area of the city? of Naples, chosen as it is significantly exposed to natural hazards of various origins. In this first study, we will focus on the risks due to volcanoes, earthquakes and tidal waves. The type of damage analyzed sar? related to the loss of human lives. During the project it will be evaluated the possibility? to extend the case study to other types of natural risk, such as hydrogeological risk, and to other types of damage, such as those related to economic or infrastructure losses.
