2? episode ?Buildings that resist? ? wednesday? January 28, 2015 ? 15 pm
Contrary to popular belief, earthquakes rarely kill. There? which instead generates lethal effects? the lack of prevention and knowledge of the risks, so? such as neglect and poor maintenance of the structures that host us.
The second episode of ?Earthquake. The day before? ? therefore dedicated to the illustration of those techniques that make it possible to construct buildings that resist earthquakes, or to make them less vulnerable. Thanks to technology? explains the prof. Ivo Cali?, professor of Construction Science at the University? of Catania? today we are able to create anti-seismic building structures capable of saving ?the content?, i.e. the lives of the people housed in buildings subject to possible tremors, but also the ?containers?, the buildings themselves. In Japan or California, for example, this has been happening for years, thanks to a widespread culture of coexistence with earthquakes. And in Italy? The interview ? preceded by a file on the Irpinia earthquake, edited by Debora Borgese.
