Once again this year INGV collaborates with De Agostini Scuola for the realization of free training events dedicated to teachers of STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) of first and second grade secondary schools as part of the event "A Scuola Science".
"Scientific discoveries and innovations to motivate active learning and promote inclusive and fun teaching" is the leitmotiv of the three meetings to be held in Catania (February 25), Perugia (March 18) and Lecce (March 29) where ample space for the transversal and crucial theme of education for scientific citizenship.
A rich training program will see experienced and internationally renowned scientists from INGV, the CNR, the Italian Institute of Technology, the Umberto Veronesi Foundation, the University of Padua and the San Raffaele Hospital and University of Milan, aimed at making teachers aware of the most urgent scientific-environmental issues, in particular on the latest frontiers of research in the field of health, environmental sustainability, progress in robotics, contributions to teaching from psychology to be shared in the classroom with students.
Among the INGV researchers, Giuliana D'Addezio who will touch upon the themes linked to the ever more frequent risks from catastrophic events of natural origin, emphasizing the importance of territorial knowledge and planning to prevent or mitigate them. "Earth sciences have an essential and direct link with human life, both for the problems themselves and for the contribution to scientific knowledge that gives them support, stimulus and guidance to address fundamental issues for the protection and safeguarding of the Planet" , highlighted the researcher who has been engaged for years in the field of scientific dissemination. “These meetings” – he continues – “have the important objective of bringing together the scientific community and the school. Teachers have the fundamental task of preparing students to become active citizens, providing them with the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to contribute to the improvement of the community. The contribution of the researchers in this training course is to testify how research and the scientific approach play an active part in everyone's life and how correct information supports more informed choices."
As part of the training appointments, space will be given to practical workshops in which teachers led by researchers will experiment with engaging, current and innovative teaching activities.
