Annals of Geophysics, the scientific journal of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), has published the first of two special issues dedicated to EPOS, the European Plate Observing System. The two volumes entitled "EPOS a Research Infrastructure in solid Earth: open science and innovation", are entirely dedicated to the European research infrastructure for the study of the dynamics of our planet, which sees INGV among the promoters and coordinators of the initiative .

EPOS is coordinated by a European Consortium ERIC (European Research Infrastructure Consortium), created with the aim of developing a long-term integration plan to provide access to data, scientific products, laboratories and observatories in the field of solid Earth sciences. The main aim is to facilitate the integrated use of high quality multidisciplinary data produced by national and transnational networks and monitoring systems to understand the dynamics and complexity of the Earth system.

The topics dealt with in the volume are central: from the integration of data and services for Earth Sciences to transnational accessibility to research infrastructures, there is no shortage of contributions on the long-term sustainability of a distributed research infrastructure and on the national initiatives promoted by EPOS in numerous European countries.

The first volume is available at the following link:
Vol. 65 No. 2 (2022): Special Issue: EPOS a Research Infrastructure in solid Earth: open science and innovation

The release of the second volume is scheduled for next June.
