A seismologist from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), Lauro Chiaraluce, and one from the British Geological Survey (BGS), Margarita Segou, together welcomed Prince Charles of England, for the first time visiting the places affected by the earthquake last summer.  

Arriving in Amatrice by helicopter, the royal first greeted the local authorities then, accompanied by the head of Civil Protection Fabrizio Curcio, visited the red zone tragically devastated by the earthquake of August 24, where he placed a bouquet of flowers at the memorial to the victims of the earthquake, in which three citizens of British nationality also lost their lives.   

After that, Prince Charles spoke with representatives of various humanitarian associations and rescuers, engaged in various capacities first in the management of the seismic emergency and then in reconstruction. On that occasion, Prince Charles was updated by the two seismologists on the progress of the seismic sequence still in progress, showing particular interest in the main characteristics of the strong earthquakes that occurred in the past months and in the first scientific results resulting from the collaboration between the two research institutes.
