The National Civil Service project for the cataloguing, use and valorisation of the documentary and iconographic material of the Etna volcano is under way at the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) - Etna Observatory in Catania.
The project offers 5 volunteers a one-year training opportunity, aimed at recovering, cataloging and enhancing the iconographic and documentary material relating to the volcanological, naturalistic and landscape aspects of the Etna area in the second half of the XNUMXth century.
The material is made up of two important funds: the Rittmann Miscellany and the Salvatore Cucuzza collection, present in the INGV-OE Library and in the Linguaglossa Antonio Gullo Municipal Library. The project involves the creation of an online database, where users will be able to view and analyze the material, increasing contacts and access.
The work will also train the volunteers in the computerization of the material treated and in its dissemination, making use of valuable collaborations with the Etna Park Authority, the University of Catania, the Linguaglossa Municipal Library Antonio Gullo and the Associazione Aetnae culture.
A project based on the principles of gratuitousness, civil commitment and solidarity, aimed at providing greater knowledge of the relationship between volcanic activity, man and impacts on the territory.
