Coordinating volcanic risk forecasting and prevention activities on Etna. This will be discussed on July 6 and 7 at the Regional Department of Civil Protection (DRPC) in Nicolosi, at the conference on emergency planning and volcanic risk management in the Etna area, organized by the National Council of Geologists (CNG), in collaboration with the Etna Observatory of theIstituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV-OE). The event will be attended by: INGV-OE (the agency that constantly monitors the volcano); the National and Regional Departments of Civil Protection (both responsible for the early warning systems); the University of Catania and the regional college of Alpine and Volcanological Guides. A dedicated roundtable discussion will also be held with the mayors of the municipalities that administer the areas at the volcano's summit and the Metropolitan City of Catania, which is responsible for provincial road networks in the area. On the second day, there will be the opportunity to participate in a geo-excursion, organized in collaboration with the Etna cable car and the guides of the GAV Sicilia regional college. During the ascent, the conference speakers will focus on the geological and operational aspects of the civil protection system currently in place on the southern slope of Etna.
