For many hours a fire, which broke out at about 600 m. above sea level on the slopes of Vesuvius, it threatens the Historical Site of the Vesuvius Observatory of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV-OE), the first Volcanological Observatory in the world. A place where the history of volcanology was made and which today houses an invaluable instrumental historical heritage, an important mineralogical collection, as well as training-didactic and informative courses and much, much more.
The Fire Brigade, who have been spending days on limiting a phenomenon that unfortunately becomes common every summer, masterfully countered the advance of the fire front. All our infinite gratitude goes to them, to all the institutions that promptly intervened and to the expert pilot of the Canadair, who is currently working to resolve the situation.
