Tomorrow, 26st May, at the Prefecture of Varese, theNational Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) will receive a official recognition by the Italian Radio Amateurs Association (ARI).
The recognition, awarded within the framework of the 500th National Tuning Test of the National Emergency Alternative Radiocommunications Network, Known as “Zamberletti Network”, is linked to the contribution that INGV has been providing for decades to the activities of the Zamberletti Network through the production of Prediction tables for ionospheric radio propagation in the Mediterranean area, used to support HF band radio communications during link tests and emergency activities.
The tables are one of the products of the continuous monitoring of the ionosphere and the models developed over time by the staff of the Rome 2 Section of the Institute. This scientific support allows us to identify the most suitable frequencies for long-distance radio communications based on different ionospheric conditions.
The Zamberletti Network represents a historic emergency infrastructure of the Civil Protection Italian and is managed by ARI volunteers through the coordination of radio stations installed at the Prefectures, equipment maintenance, and periodic tuning tests. The exercises involve numerous Italian Prefectures, the Civil Protection Department, the Fire Brigade, and the Italian Navy.
During the awards ceremony, plaques will be presented to the organizations and institutions that have contributed to the development and operation of the network over time. INGV will be represented by Vincenzo Romano, Director of the Roma2 Section.
