The second edition of the Festival will take place in Stromboli from 17th to 19th July. "Vulcana. Sublimation", the festival of visual arts, performances, music, and meetings that promotes dialogue between culture, community, and nature in the heart of the Mediterranean.
This year the festival will benefit from the collaboration of theNational Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), a research institute monitoring Stromboli, one of the most active volcanoes in the world, with a focus on the relationship between artistic expression, scientific dimension, and natural context.
“Vulcana. Sublimation” is an event founded by Manuela Morandi, edited by Nicholas Gravina e Cornelia Mattiacci and created in collaboration with theAmerican Academy in Rome. Through the comparison between art, science and nature, The event offers a reflection on the themes of prediction, uncertainty and risk perception., presenting transversal and interdisciplinary paths and involving exponents of the contemporary Italian and international cultural scene.
The program will be divided into Performances, site-specific installations, talks, screenings and evening musical events with free admission which will be held throughout the island of Stromboli. The program will be kicked off by, the 16 in July at 18, a conversation between the curators and Mario Matthias, geophysicist at INGV.
During the days of the festival, and until September 30th, it will be possible to visit the INGV Information Center in Stromboli, opened in 1998 with the aim of supporting monitoring and research activities on the volcano and offering visitors scientific information on the Aeolian Islands. The Center is open to the public free of charge every day from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
