The two Information Centers of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) of Stromboli and Vulcano, on the Aeolian Islands, reopen their doors. Like every year, from July 1st to September 30th, it is possible to visit the two structures. Objective: to welcome and inform visitors about Aeolian volcanism and the risks associated with it.
The Centres, created thanks to the INGV "ilVulcanoinforma" project, have internal spaces dedicated to permanent exhibitions, with informative scientific panels that contain information on the Aeolian volcanoes, and to projections of films on the volcanic activity of Vulcano and Stromboli. In the center of Stromboli it is also possible to observe the signals of some of the seismic stations installed on the volcano, in addition to the webcams which transmit images of the craters in real time. While in Vulcano there is a rich rock library with the products of the eruptive activity of Vulcano and some Aeolian volcanoes.
Visits to the Centers are guaranteed, in the summer months (July-September) 7 days a week with university students (thanks to a program with which INGV involves the most important Italian Earth Science Faculties) supported by university researchers and staff INGV; during the winter months, by Institute staff, upon reservation.
Informative material such as brochures, maps, postcards and booklets, concerning Stromboli and Vulcano and their eruptive activity, are available free of charge at the Visitor Centers or can be downloaded from the website www.ilvulcanoinforma.it
