Registrations for the second edition of the competition will open on Friday 24th April at 12:00. International School on Drone and VR for Volcano-Tectonic Studies at Etna, organized byIstituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) and by the 'University of Milan-Bicocca (UniMiB), in partnership with theInternational Lithosphere Program (ILP), CRUST – Interuniversity Center for 3D Seismotectonics with territorial applications, Agisoft LLC e TECLA Project.

The school will take place in Nicolosi (CT) 6 from October to 10 2026: participants will discover the use of drones e immersive virtual reality as innovative tools for scientific research, monitoring and study of active volcanic areas, learning how to carry out surveys with drones to generate 2.5D and 3D modelsThe latter will be used for GIS analysis and for immersive virtual reality techniques.

The activities will be divided into three modules: theoretical sessions in the classroom, to introduce key concepts and methodologies, field activities dedicated to data acquisition and drone survey techniques on the slopes of the Etna volcano e lab sessions for data processing, model generation and virtual reality integration.

The School will take place in English language and will welcome sixteen participants.

The selection will be made by assigning priority strictly according to the following order:

1.       PhD students in Earth and Environmental Sciences;
2.       Master's students in Earth and Environmental Sciences;
3.       Post-doc researchers in the same disciplinary fields;
4.       Other candidates.

Within each category the selection will be made on the basis of theregistration order.
