The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Honorable Laura Boldrini visited Stromboli. She was guided by the President of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, Carlo Doglioni who, with an INGV team, illustrated the seismic, volcanic and geochemical monitoring network of one of the most active volcanoes in the world.
Characterized by a persistent explosive activity, called Strombolian, the volcanic edifice of Stromboli rises over 920 meters above sea level. Since January 2003, INGV has activated a multi-parameter monitoring system for the volcano, designed to detect and analyze the activity and eruptive processes taking place on the island. The volcano represents an exceptional natural laboratory which regularly hosts measurement campaigns and the development of cutting-edge technologies for the study of active volcanoes. The current INGV surveillance network consists of seismic, infrasonic, geomagnetic, geoelectric, gravimetric and GPS stations.
