On the eve of the tenth anniversary of the earthquake that hit L'Aquila on 6 April 2009, the women and men of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) will share on the INGVterremoti Blog, through a series of contributions, the steps forward that the research has been done in understanding the earthquake and the wealth of experience and knowledge that I am able to deliver to the Society today: a space for reflection that personally and humanly involves the whole Institute.

The months of the emergency have seen INGV researchers work side by side in the field with the inhabitants of the affected communities, a very strong professional, cultural and human experience that INGV will always carry with it.

Since the beginning of the sequence, the researchers have started a series of meetings with the people housed in the tent cities, the teachers and all the school staff of the schools in the provinces of L'Aquila, Teramo and Pescara, involving thousands of people.

Not only researchers, therefore, but first of all people close to the communities affected by the heart.
