INGV | Appointment in Palermo with "Boarding@Science"

From The 21 23 October la Palermo Section of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV - PA) participate in the event "Boarding@Science"Students Meet Research", organized by the Research Area of the National Research Council (CNR) of Palermo, Via Ugo La Malfa 153.

For the occasion, by 9: 00 14 to: 00, the INGV will propose a series of activities aimed at introducing students to the world of scientific research:

An interactive journey through volcanoes and earthquakes

Interactive booth: "Volcanoes, earthquakes, the environment: science on display!"

At the stand, students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in an interactive experience through scale models and real instruments used by researchers to study our planet.

Using models that reproduce the internal structure of the Earth and of a volcano, the public will be able to witness practical demonstrations of magmatic degassing and the instruments used to carry out the measurements.

Will a model of a fault was exposed, with an accelerometer that will show the movements in real time on a screen Furthermore, it will be possible to participate in a particularly engaging activity that will allow you to measure the carbon dioxide in your breath: a concrete example of how the same instruments used to analyze volcanoes are also essential for environmental monitoring.

Insights into climate change and Earth's dynamics

Two thematic seminars, held by INGV researcher Giorgio Capasso:

  • "Climate Change and Human Impact", scheduled for October 21st at 9:00 am.
  • "Volcanism, Earthquakes, and Earth's Dynamics": scheduled for October 21st at 10:00 am and October 22nd at 9:00 am.

These activities offer a unique opportunity to dialogue directly with researchers and understand the importance of science for the knowledge of our planet and the challenges of the future.
