From 7 at the 9 July, in the splendid setting of the Benedictine Monastery of San Nicolò l'Arena of Catania will be held the 7th Alfred Rittmann Conference with over 300 scientists that will reunite to take stock of research, monitoring and volcanic hazard.
The event is jointly organized by theItalian Association of Volcanology (AIV), From 'Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV), From 'University of Catania and from the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI) and sponsored by Italian Geological Society, from Etna park and by society BUUM (Italian Volcanological Guides).
The Conference, named after the father of contemporary volcanology, has been an important meeting opportunity for the international scientific community since 2009.
Hundreds of experts will discuss key scientific topics of volcanological interest: sessions will range from studying the mechanisms of magma ascent to assessing the hazards associated with explosive and effusive eruptions. Great importance will be given to the use of artificial intelligence for the monitoring and surveillance of volcanic phenomena and the impact on society, analyzing the perception of risk and protection in areas with a high tourist vocation. The packed three-day program includes thirteen thematic sessions, during which 270 scientific contributions will be presented, divided between oral presentations and poster sessions.
On Tuesday 7 July the proceedings will open with a prestigious plenary conference entitled: 'The tempo and architecture of the plumbing systems that fed some of the largest Quaternary eruptions on Earth', which will be held by Prof. Guilherme Gualda of Vanderbilt University (Tennessee, USA).
The Rittmann Conference thus confirms itself A moment of the highest scientific value and a strategic alliance between organizations and institutions to understand and mitigate natural risks, protecting the territory and the population.
