Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 October, I DO NOT RISK - Good Civil Protection Practices will be in the Italian squares for the national communication campaign on natural risks.
The purpose of the event is to inform citizens about the risks to which the area in which they live is exposed and to illustrate good behavior to be put into practice in the event of a flood, earthquake or tsunami. On the other hand, information on volcanic risk will be the novelty this year for the municipalities of the Phlegrean area in Campania and the islands of Vulcano and Stromboli in Sicily.
INGV, its historic partner, brings the results of scientific research on earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanoes to the streets. With hazard estimates, for example, every informed citizen can make the right choices to protect themselves and take the necessary actions to mitigate the risks to which they are exposed. Furthermore, knowing the geological history of the places it is possible to recognize the traces of past events and prepare to face the consequences of the natural phenomena that characterize the territory.
“INGV”, explains the President Carlo Doglioni, "is the research body engaged in the study, monitoring and surveillance of earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions, and is an operational structure of the National Civil Protection System, sharing data in real time. The Institute is the point of reference for obtaining information on events, not only in emergency situations. It is essential to cultivate memory, because the permanent conflict with oblivion leads citizens to lower their guard against natural hazards. The promotion of knowledge and prevention activities make citizens aware and, therefore, take an active part in reducing these risksi ".
Over 8.000 civil protection volunteers will be engaged in the squares of about 600 Italian municipalities. Furthermore, the physical squares will be integrated by as many digital squares where, through social media, with remote meeting platforms and live interventions, citizens and volunteers will be able to discuss risk awareness and prevention.
The live streaming of 15 October from 11:00, organized in collaboration with the Roberto Rossellini Cine-TV Institute of Rome, will be broadcast on the social channels of the campaign and of the Department of Civil Protection and will offer citizens further food for thought and insights useful on the themes of the Campaign and on good civil protection practices.
I DO NOT RISK closes the events of National Civil Protection Week 2022 promoted by the Department of Civil Protection and, this year, the Campaign was awarded the "Medal of the President of the Republic".
