The twentieth anniversary ceremony of the earthquake that struck Umbria in 1997 was held in Assisi. The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella was the guest of honour, who met the various components of the national Civil Protection system, involved in the emergency of the earthquake of 1997 and 2016. To represent the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), a delegation composed, among others, by the President Carlo Doglioni and the Director General Maria Siclari.
“I wanted to be here”, explains the President of the Republic, “in front of the rescue and reconstruction volunteers. The first thought is of the suffering experienced by so many. Thanks for what you did then and on every occasion if the need arises. Thanks to those who are involved in helping, supporting the affected populations and the various branches of the public administration close to the Civil Protection. Our country knows how to express great solidarity, I hope it will be able to express it even away from dramatic moments: a great national pact for prevention ", concludes Mattarella.
