The book is available “The science and art of paleoseismology. Images of paleoearthquake records from around the world" created on the initiative of four paleoseismology experts: Francesca R. Cinti e Daniela Pantosti, researchers at theNational Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), David P. Schwartz, Emeritus Geologist with the United States Geological Survey (USGS), and Yann Klinger, researcher at theInstitut de Physique du Globe de Paris (IPGP).
The book, published by INGV e IPGP, tells the story through images paleoseismology, a branch of research that aims to understand past earthquakes through the traces they have left in geological sediments, in order to improve forecasts for the future.
The volume collects images e studi of paleoseismological excavations conducted in different parts of the world by Italian and international colleagues, and aims to document the variability of stratigraphy and structures in different tectonic environments.
The text is addressed to the and students who want to familiarize themselves with the topic and develop guiding processes for recognizing paleoearthquakes, but it also provides useful ideas to researchers e freelancers active in the sector.
A digital version of the collection will be available soon.
