Everything is ready for the new edition of the Genoa Science Festival, the appointment that every year brings together researchers, enthusiasts, schools and families in one of the major science dissemination events at an international level. The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) will participate in the 2020 edition with a workshop for children and adults dedicated to tides.
This year, in fact, the Genoa Science Festival has structured its program around the theme of waves. Waves can be of many types: electromagnetic ones, seismic ones, passing from the waves of the sea up to the tides.
And it is precisely to the tides that INGV dedicates the laboratory for children and adults.
Starting from Thursday 22 October and until Sunday 1 November it will be possible to deepen this theme by participating in MAREOPOLI, an exciting team game. Through a multidisciplinary approach, the laboratory will make it possible to explain from a scientific point of view the mechanisms of tidal formation and related phenomena.
From the historical point of view, then, it traces the theories of the scholars who, starting from the Greek period with Aristotle up to the end of the eighteenth century, passing through Galileo, Kepler, Newton and Laplace, have tried to provide an explanation for these real " cycles of the sea". Transversal issues will also be dealt with, but connected to the complex phenomenon of tides, such as renewable energies, biodiversity and the protection of the planet.

A reservation is needed to participate: http://www.festivalscienza.it/site/home/programma/mareopoli.html
