The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) adheres to the initiative "I light up less", Day of energy saving and sustainable lifestyles created in 2005 by Radiodue's "Caterpillar" show. This year the city lights will go out today, Friday 6 March, from 20:00 to 22:00.
The 2020 edition is dedicated to increasing the number of trees and plants around us to increase urban greenery, helping to reduce the main cause of the increase in greenhouse gases in the earth's atmosphere and the consequent rise in temperatures.
INGV, which has always been involved in the study of issues concerning the climate and climate change, has supported this edition of "M'illumino di Meno" by symbolically planting a tree of Citrus Clementine in the green area surrounding its Rome office in the presence of the Institute's President, Carlo Doglioni, the General Manager, Maria Siclari, and the Director of the Environment Department, Leonardo Sagnotti.
On Energy Saving and Sustainable Lifestyles Day, the lights of Italian squares, monuments (the Tower of Pisa, the Colosseum, the Verona Arena), the symbolic buildings of Italy (Quirinale, Senate and Chamber) will go out and many citizens' houses, as well as the Eiffel Tower, the Foreign Office and the Prater Wheel in Vienna.
