Newsletter n.7
INGV newsletter | no.7 | September | 2020 | fourteenth year
- Written by Staff
INGVnewsletter restarts with impetus to solicit the enthusiasm of all those who love and are interested in geosciences. Geosciences for the environment, to defend against natural risks, for a more informed and more resilient society. Italy is a nation shaped by a spectacular geology, already described by Antonio Stoppani in his 'Bel Paese', with some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world generated by a very particular tectonic evolution, with two lithosphere subductions entering the mantle and they generated the Alps and the Apennines with the Tyrrhenian Sea. Understanding the functioning of these two macrostructures is vital for reconstructing past evolution, but above all, what is the current deep structure and what could be the future evolution of this puzzle of tectonic plates which is the Mediterranean, with its earthquakes and volcanoes.
L'GUEST OF HONOR
interview with Professor Maria Chiara Carrozza
University professor of Industrial Bioengineering and Scientific Director of the Don Carlo Gnocchi Onlus Foundation, his career is a model of national virtue. We are talking about Professor Maria Chiara Carrozza: former rector of the Scuola Sant'Anna in Pisa and minister of MIUR, she has been recognized as one of the 25 most influential women in the robotics sector. We had the great pleasure of hosting you in our virtual living room to ask you a few questions about your career, the scenarios relating to new technologies and aspects of the world of work of tomorrow.

A RESEARCHER'S LIFE
INTERVIEW A
Determination, passion and curiosity have led Claudia Corradino to be an esteemed young researcher. Passionate about 800th century English literature, she dreams of a conversation on the relationship between faith and science with Albert Einstein. Experiences abroad but roots well planted in the daughter city of the "Great Mother" have traced the path of Claudia who dreams of achieving important scientific goals and, why not, the right job stability.

LAB EXPERIENCES
The Development Laboratory for Environmental Monitoring in Rome
The INGV development laboratory for environmental monitoring is a versatile laboratory, "spread" between two Rome sections of the Institute, which over the years has been able to enrich its equipment and improve the quality of the measurements with the continuous approach to new methodologies and with the acquisition of new technologies, skills and instruments. We went to discover the many activities that take place inside it together with Roberto Carluccio, an INGV researcher who has been part of the team that works daily in the Lab since 2004.

IT HAPPENED TODAY
MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP
Between series, magazines and scientific reports. Journey to discover INGV publishing
Manuscripts to submit, deadlines to meet, external reviewers, indexing and evaluation of results. At a less attentive glance, the world of scientific publishing could appear as a maze of even very complex procedures to be approached on tiptoe. In reality, this world made up of publications, articles, reports and reviews moves on gears which, if perfectly oiled, manage to keep in motion an editorial machine capable of spreading its products to every corner of the world. This is also what happens within the INGV, where the National Editorial Center deals with the edition of editorial series and also with the production of the journal "Annals of Geophysics" which interest an increasingly vast public both internally and, above all outside the Institute. To orient ourselves in this world so varied and full of stimuli, we interviewed the two Editors in Chief (editors in chief) of the INGV publishing sector, Paola De Michelis for the magazine "Annals of Geophysics" and Luigi Cucci for the series "Quaderni di Geophysics”, “INGV Technical Reports” and “INGV Miscellaneous”.
