THE EDITORIAL
The President's editorial: #INGVoperativosempre
2020 will be remembered for the long and dramatic tragedy that Italy and the whole world had to face with the pandemic. Covid-19 has revolutionized the way we interact, it has unhinged the daily priorities, the routines of our lives. However, in these days, in these weeks in which Italy is necessarily a protected area, in which #stayhome is essential for the ongoing battle and survival of all, natural phenomena do not stop: the geodynamic movements of the earth are unstoppable and for INGV it is essential to continue to monitor the territory with the usual attention. We remember how during the black plague in 1348 and 1349 there were devastating earthquakes which violently whipped the north-east and the central Apennines. With this attention, we have created the hashtag #ingvoperativosempre to give our small but dutiful contribution to the emergency, keeping all our activities operational in the seismic and volcanic surveillance rooms in Catania, Naples and Rome.
L'GUEST OF HONOR
Graduated in Geological Sciences and PhD in Earth Sciences, Gabriele Scarascia Mugnozza is Full Professor of Applied Geology at the Sapienza University of Rome as well as President of the National Commission for the Forecasting and Prevention of Major Risks, the liaison structure between the National Civil Protection and the scientific community. Always a great lover of nature, Professor Scarascia Mugnozza has been involved in risk prevention right from the start in his professional career. We had the great pleasure of interviewing him to understand the importance of geology in land planning and learn more about his career.

A RESEARCHER'S LIFE
INTERVIEW A
Never give up could be the motto that accompanies the life of Lucilla Alfonsi. Growing up in the legendary 80s, she too was wrapped up in the Simon Le Bon/Tony Hadley dualism. Who preferred of the two remains a mystery but on the other hand we discovered so much about her professional and private life. Want to know who Lucilla is? A woman full of tenacity who faced life as one faces a swimming race, her main passion: every stroke is aimed at reaching the finish line and overcoming life's obstacles.

LAB EXPERIENCES
The 3D Modeling Laboratory of Pisa
The 3D Modeling Laboratory (3D LAB), located at the Pisa branch of INGV, carries out activities aimed at the creation, processing and analysis of three-dimensional digital models that reconstruct portions of the earth's surface subject to morphological variations. The 3D LAB is now undergoing further development, ready to contribute its tools to field research. We talked about it with Alessandro Fornaciai, coordinator of the 3D LAB activities.
THE EARTH TELLS
The spectacle of nature: discovering the Stiffe Caves
Fascinating, mysterious, they represent one of the major karst attractions of the area. We are talking about the Grotte di Stiffe, caves that originated millions of years ago and shaped over time by the action of water on the rock. To find out how they were generated and what they hide inside, we interviewed Vanja Kastelic, a researcher at INGV's headquarters in L'Aquila.
IT HAPPENED TODAY
MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP
The new Monitoring Center of the Aeolian Islands of INGV
Coordinate the monitoring, surveillance and scientific research activities on the Aeolian Islands, without forgetting the tasks of information and transmission of scientific knowledge to the population and to the Civil Protection authorities. This is it mission of the CME, the new INGV Aeolian Monitoring Center, formally established last January but born following the ever-increasing need for knowledge of the archipelago highlighted by the two paroxysmal eruptions of Stromboli which occurred on 3 July and 28 August 2019.
