The recognition, in its first edition, was delivered to the Director of the Etna Observatory, Stefano Branca, during the conference "Extreme events and civil protection: from awareness of risks to prevention", held last Saturday 23 October in Linguaglossa (CT ).
“We are proud to have received this prestigious award”, commented Director Branca. "For the Catania Section, 2021 was a very demanding year, with the intense eruptive phase of Etna and, in recent months, with the volcanic activity of Stromboli and Vulcano".
The Zamberletti Award was assigned to the Etneo Observatory of Catania 'for the merits acquired in the exercise of one's profession and for having contributed with its work to the development of the Civil Protection in Italy, giving it an image of industriousness and prestige '.
"The colleagues of the Etna Observatory", continues Stefano Branca, "have managed and are managing the phenomena affecting Etna, Stromboli and Vulcano in an excellent way from a technical, technological, scientific and managerial point of view, carrying on an activity in continuity with the spirit that has distinguished the mission of our Section for over fifty years, born from the enlightening scientific project of Alfred Rittmann.
