Scientists meet stakeholders and the school for information on sea level rise in the lagoon city.

On 26 and 27 October 2021 in Venice, researchers from SAVEMEDCOASTS-2 they will meet local operators to inform about the causes and effects of sea level rise. The meetings, organized by town of Venice, they are made jointly by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) and from isotech of Cyprus, with the collaboration of the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC extension) and of the Basilicata Research Environment Foundation (FARBAS), project partner.
In fact, in the SaveMedCoasts-2 project, support to coastal communities is fundamental in raising awareness of this phenomenon, in identifying specific needs and in developing applicable solutions, since sea level rise is not only an abstract environmental problem but is a natural phenomenon that causes serious social and economic repercussions.
The capillary and concrete information of these impacts is essential and, for this purpose, Isotech is implementing a participatory method of decision support, based on the in-depth understanding of the perceptions of the main institutional actors and civil society of Venice. This method aims to develop specific solutions for the mitigation of sea level rise, as well as develop useful tools for adaptation policies.
The second event of KnowRiskFlood, the information campaign dedicated to schools, will take place in the appointments.
The KnowRiskFlood campaign is a scientific dissemination event with the teachers of the schools of Venice and, in particular, with the students of the "Morosini" secondary school of Venice who collaborate with SaveMedCoasts-2.
Serious games, discussions and reflections on sea level rise, land subsidence, causes, consequences, future projections on local sea level, will be explained for the first time in the presence of young people after the long lockdown of 2020 .

The SaveMedCoasts-2 project will provide answers to the most impactful questions in the interests of local communities such as, for example, “what is happening in Venice?”, “what can be done to mitigate the effects of sea level rise?”
The serious games will stimulate the attention and involve students and teachers so that they can learn about the effects of sea level rise on the Venice Lagoon and the tools to protect it. Having fun will be useful for achieving greater awareness.
