With two specific insights on the risks associated with the volcanism of Stromboli and the national alert system for volcanic eruptions, the information offer of INGV and DPC at the Stromboli Info Point is expanded

The Stromboli Info Point has been renovated and enriched with new information panels created by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) and by the National Department of Civil Protection (DPC)
With texts in Italian and English, the visitor can become aware of the danger associated with the volcanic activity of Stromboli and with the national alert system for Italian volcanoes, with a particular focus on the two experimental Early Warning systems for explosions paroxysms and tsunamis on the island of Stromboli.
In particular, the information panel dedicated to the volcanic hazards of Stromboli, in the light of the knowledge of scientific research, represents the various types of phenomena that can affect the volcano: from ordinary activity to major and paroxysmal explosions, passing through lava flows, landslides in the Sciara del Fuoco, tidal waves, fires and earthquakes.
The panel on the national alert system for Italian volcanoes, developed by the Civil Protection Department, is dedicated to the different "alert levels" declared by the DPC on the basis of data provided by the advanced monitoring system of Stromboli's geophysical and geochemical parameters. During the visit, the tourist will acquire useful information for his safety and on the operational phases of civil protection for volcanic eruptions at a national level.
Of particular note are the two experimental Early Warning systems implemented by the DPC which, in the event of an event on Stromboli, automatically activate the sirens a few moments before the occurrence of a paroxysmal explosion of the volcano or in the case of a tsunami alarm.
The INGV Info Points of the Aeolian Islands are two centers of fundamental importance for scientific information on the territory, especially during the summer months, when the excursion activity of Italian and foreign tourists is particularly intense.
In fact, in the Visitor Rooms of the two Stromboli and Vulcano structures, specialized teams of INGV researchers welcome the public by illustrating Aeolian volcanism and the associated risks, providing information on the level of real-time activity of the volcanoes, on the monitoring systems of the islands and on scientific research conducted by INGV.
Constant scientific communication is a strategic activity for INGV and DPC for risk mitigation and in this perspective they are committed to expanding information to visitors, strengthening the dissemination tools already present in the INGV Info Points, which have always been support structures for scientific and civil protection information.
