With a rich offer of workshops and seminars, INGV participates in the 2021 edition of Fiera Didacta, the largest Italian event dedicated to school and training

The new edition of Fiera Didacta Italia 16 returns from 19 to 2021 March, the national event dedicated to schools which this year will welcome, for the first time online, teachers, educators and experts to open spaces for discussion and sharing ideas about the future of this strategic sector for the country.

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) will participate in the appointment with a busy calendar of immersive seminars and workshops that will enrich the scientific program of the event and will involve teachers from schools of all levels.

Fiera Didacta Italia is one of the most important national events on education and training, included by the Ministry of Education (MI) among the events envisaged by the multi-year training plan for managers, teachers and ATA staff.

The scientific program is coordinated by the National Institute of Documentation, Innovation and Educational Research (INDIRE) and every year involves the most important Italian organizations in the sector: in addition to INGV, other research bodies, institutes and associations participate, including the Council National Research Council (CNR), the Istituto degli Innocenti of Florence, the Reggio Children Foundation, the Tuscany Region, the Italian Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Crafts and Agriculture (Unioncamere), the Italian Publishers Association (AIE) and City of Science.

The activities proposed by the INGV researchers will deal with issues ranging from the role of fake news in science communication to fine dust pollution, passing through proposals for Paths for Transversal Skills and Orientation (PCTO) and job proposals for dedicated teachers to geosciences, volcanology, Antarctica, oceans and climate change.

The key objective of the event is to bring together teachers, school principals, educators, trainers and leading companies in the school, school building, environment and technology sector to develop innovative solutions aimed at supporting the Italian school system, also in light of the global pandemic emergency in place.

All information for participation in Fiera Didacta Italia is available on the event website: Fieradidacta.indire.it.

INGV events at Fiera Didacta:

17|03 – 15:00-17:00

About to explode

A tear-off firecracker supported by a support, a container hanging from the fuse, many bolts to be thrown into the container: how many are needed to make the firecracker explode? A laboratory to think about volcanic hazard and probability.

18|03 - 13:30-15:00

News, Fake News, Post-truth: between science, communication and law

It is known that in recent years the risk of running into "fake news" by young people has increased. Not only that, often the discussion of sensitive issues such as natural risks, health, is carried out on the web where everyone has the right to speak and where it is increasingly difficult to distinguish between true and false, almost true and almost false.

18|03 - 15:00-17:00

Geoscience teaching experiments for natural hazards education through play and active discovery paths

Case studies and innovative teaching laboratory for education on natural risks and eco-sustainable behavior: active path of discovery on hydrogeological risk and reflection on climate change "It's raining ideas!" and team board game with two distinct tracks on seismic and hydrogeological risk "Risk Detective" (from whose meeting with the "Si salvi chi può" app "GEORISK" was born).

18|03 - 18:00-20:00

Knowing Antarctica: how to build educational paths for students through role play

The activities will be divided between the presentation of training contents dedicated to the theme of scientific research in Antarctica; sharing of experiences carried out at INGV, based on the role-playing methodology for children in the 2nd cycle of primary school.

19|03 - 13:30-15:00

Fine dust, atmospheric pollution and the magnetism of leaves and lichens

After introducing the basic principles that regulate the magnetism of matter, we will talk about magnetic minerals and laboratory methods useful for monitoring air pollution from fine particles, using leaves and lichens as control units for studying PM in urban and industrial contexts . Tools for teachers and activities for students.

19|03 - 15:00-17:00

Know the oceans to understand the climate

The activity foresees a theoretical introduction on the oceans supported by video material, images and a series of experiments which allow to recreate and empirically verify the processes described in order to understand the temporal speed with which these processes can take place.

19|03 - 18:30-20:00

Possibility of ASL and PCTO courses at INGV. Approach courses for students to STEM subjects

Three years after the beginning of the experience at INGV with ASL projects, students were given a questionnaire to evaluate the educational and learning process. This moment of evaluation and analysis was particularly important, considering that the ASL activity, especially at the beginning, appeared as something new for the Italian approach to school training activity and with scarce and confused formal and structured teaching indications. The results of this analysis and the constant more than ten-year collaboration with schools will help us to plan future activities with targeted content and to increase students' interest in scientific subjects and, consequently, to increase the number of graduates in the fields STEM, equipping the jobs of tomorrow with the skills they need.
