The thirteenth edition of the scientific event is underway which this year will lead over 700 students to discover the world of science through activities that leave their "sign"

The thirteenth edition of Experience in Signa, the scientific event in which the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) participates again this year with workshops, conferences, educational tours and a dedicated stand.
The theme of this edition, “Climate change and sustainability”, foresees a rich program of appointments to be held in Building 19 - Polydidactic Complex of the University of Palermo.
The researchers of the Palermo section of the INGV will animate the day of Friday 21 February with two conferences: “The study of climate and climate change: the contribution of Geochemistry”, held by the researcher Marcello Liotta, e “The caves: an ideal place for monitoring climate change”, edited by my colleague Paolo Madonia.
At the INGV stand it will be possible to observe a volcano model with simulations of degassing processes in the magma chamber, a seismograph during seismic monitoring and one of the new generation observatories for underwater environmental monitoring, with projections of audio material - visual that will document its functioning and deposition phases. Some rocks - volcanic and non-volcanic - from Sicily will then be presented and, through a model, the Institute's researchers will describe to visitors the functioning of various types of faults.
New this year the exhibition “Monitor Volcanic Art”, a creative synergy between art, science and environmental sustainability created by the students of the IV D of the Liceo Artistico Statale "Vincenzo Ragusa and Otama Kiyohara" of Palermo with the collaboration of the local section of the INGV. Five old PC monitors will be exhibited, recycled to new life in artistic form with acrylic painting and collage techniques, which today house 3D prints of Italian volcanoes monitored by INGV.
Another novelty will also be the display of a three-dimensional model of a fumarole with the instrumentation used for sampling volcanic gases.
Visiting school teachers will be distributed books, brochures and DVDs produced by the INGV Educational and Scientific Dissemination Laboratory and by EDURISK to support the training project and dissemination of knowledge on seismic and volcanic risk.
