INGV with AIV and the University of Catania is once again the protagonist of the Alfred Rittmann Conference, the event dedicated to volcanology in which experts in the sector meet to take stock of the latest research in the setting of the Monastery of San Nicolò l'Arena of Catania

Back to Sicily there Alfred Rittmann conference, the appointment dedicated to the excellence of Italian volcanology, in Catania from 12 to 14 February 2020.
In the setting of the Monastery of San Nicolò l'Arena in Catania, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) with the Italian Association of Volcanology (AIV) and the University of Catania organize the fourth edition of the Conference which from 2009 represents the most important moment of scientific confrontation for the entire Italian volcanological community, in which sector experts meet to take stock of the latest research.
The aim of the appointment, hosted in a jewel of the late Sicilian Baroque and named after the father of contemporary volcanology, is to promote and encourage the scientific debate on recent developments in research and monitoring activities in the field of volcanology.
About three hundred members of the national volcanological community will discuss all scientific issues of volcanological interest, favoring an approach to research that is as multidisciplinary as possible, paying particular attention to the volcanic hazards of our country and also including aspects of communication and dissemination of scientific research.
The Conference will be divided into fifteen scientific sessions during which approximately two hundred contributions will be presented, including oral and poster presentations. Two plenary conferences and a Round Table will also be held on “Horizons and challenges for Italian volcanology”.
Furthermore, on Saturday 15 February, the Conference participants will take part in an excursion along the route of the 1669 lava flow in XNUMXth-century Catania, retracing the main phases of that violent eruption which radically changed the behavior and eruptive style of Etna in the subsequent centuries.
