Two days of open doors and a scientific conference aimed at institutions: stop in Irpinia next weekend for the celebrations of INGV's XNUMXth anniversary
After the appointments in Rome and Bologna, the celebrations for the twenty years since the birth of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) continue in the Irpinia branch of Grottaminarda (AV) on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd November.
Over the two days, from 10.00 to 18.00, the Contrada Ciavolone headquarters will open its doors to the public with two thematic tours on earthquakes, volcanoes and the seismic monitoring room.
In the first itinerary “Earthquakes: beware of the elements. Details that save lives”, an exhibition will illustrate to visitors the effects of earthquakes on our homes and the small precautions to make them safer; the exhibit "A journey between earthquakes and volcanoes", on the other hand, will talk about the scientific research and monitoring activities of INGV through a visit to the Seismic Monitoring Room, the description of the seismic and geodetic instrumentation and a virtual journey inside a 3D volcano.
Furthermore, on Friday 22nd, a conference aimed at institutions will be introduced by the welcome of the President of INGV Carlo Doglioni and the General Manager Maria Siclari and will continue with the speeches of Professor Ortensio Zecchino, the then Minister of University and Scientific and Technological Research who signed the founding decree of INGV and which allowed the construction of the Grottaminarda headquarters, inaugurated in 2008, of the current Chief Cabinet of MIUR Luigi Fiorentino, of the Director of the National Earthquake Observatory of INGV (ONT) Salvatore Stramondo, of the Manager of Research of the ONT Giulio Selvaggi and of the Head of the Functional Unit "Seismological and geodetic observations" of the INGV Annamaria Vicari.
