The Ml 4.1 (Mw 4.0) magnitude earthquake that occurred tonight, September 1, 2019, at 2:02 Italian time near Norcia (PG), occurred in the area of ​​the central Italy sequence that began on August 24, 2016 with the event of magnitude Mw 6.0 which occurred near Amatrice and Accumoli (RI) and which gradually developed involving a large strip of the central Apennines about 60 km long, extended in the NNW-SSE direction, from the province of Macerata, in the Marche region, to the province of L'Aquila, in Abruzzo.
In these three years, the seismic sequence was characterized by over 110800 events, 75 of which, including today's earthquake, had a magnitude greater than or equal to 4.0.
