At 15.57 Italian time today, 14 June, a seismic event of magnitude Mw 3.7 (Ml 4.0) was located by the National Seismic Network of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV).

The event took place in the province of Udine near the municipalities of Verzegnis and Tolmezzo, one kilometer north of Verzegnis and at an estimated depth of about 5 kilometres.

Subsequently, two more shocks were recorded in the area: at 16.33 of magnitude Ml 0.9 and at 18:13 of magnitude Ml 2.1.

The Friuli area is subject to a shortening of about 2 mm/year which generates compression-type earthquakes.
