Il INGV President Fabio Florindo declares “Investment that empowers public science”
The increase of the Ordinary Fund for Research Institutions (FOE), arranged by the Ministry of University and Research, represents a clear signal of strategic vision for the future of Italian scientific research.
The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) welcomes with deep gratitude the decree signed by Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, which assigns 1.485.883.600 € overall to supervised public research bodies, with an increase of 10 million euros compared to 2024.
In this context, INGV is assigned 84.995.113 €, compared to the 83.743.626 euros of last year: an increase of 1.251.487 €, which strengthens the operational capabilities of the Agency in all its missions, from scientific research to monitoring natural phenomena.
"This measure confirms the central role of public research bodies in the national knowledge strategy” declares Fabio Florindo, President of the INGV. "The support of the MUR it is not only economic, but also political and cultural: it is a concrete recognition of the value of public science, of its independence and of its function in protecting the community".
The ministerial decree underlines how research institutes are "strategic outposts of knowledge and experimentation”, as stated by the Minister Anna Maria Bernini, who added:
"They are fundamental sources of knowledge and analysis for our country and researchers around the world. This year too we have increased resources not only for their ordinary functioning, but above all so that they can increase the extraordinary project initiatives that are the lever of innovation".
A clear message, which INGV embraces and relaunches with commitment:
"The resources allocated", continues Florindo, “ci will allow us to enhance research, innovation and technology transfer activities, and to strengthen our participation in large European infrastructures, actively contributing to the construction of an integrated, advanced and competitive scientific system".
INGV thus confirms its full adherence to the priorities indicated in the National Research Program (PNR), participating in international projects and consortia of excellence such as the ERIC.
“We thank Minister Bernini and the MUR for their vision and support.
It is also thanks to these choices that we can face global challenges with scientific rigor and institutional responsibility. Science, today more than ever, needs stability, courage and targeted investments”, concludes the President of the INGV Fabio Florindo.
