The 22nd edition of the event that for years has brought together scientists, artists and the general public in an interdisciplinary and passionate debate on the wonders offered by the world of science is underway in the Ligurian capital It will be inaugurated in GenoVa the next Thursday October 24 the new edition of the Science Festival, the event that since 2003 has established itself as an international point of reference among events dissemination and promotion of scientific culture, during which scientists, popularizers, artists, scientific institutions, associations and companies meet the general public and celebrate the wonder of science. “Challenges”is the theme chosen for this year's edition, Fil rouge around which the will develop over 300 events scheduled until November 3rd. THENational Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) confirms itself among the protagonists of the event with a rich offer of exhibitions, shows and workshops.
Multimedia exhibition | EarthSKOPIO. Observing and Understanding Planet Earth October 24 - November 3 | Weekdays: 9:00-16:00 | Saturdays and holidays: 10:00-19:00 Ammunition Store of the Doge's Palace | Piazza Matteotti, 9 The EarthSKOPIO exhibition, conceived to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the INGV, is a immersive journey which tries to respond to one of the most important challenges of our time: how address and mitigate the damaging effects that natural events, even extreme ones, can have on our lives. Through multimedia installations and thematic insights, visitors will be led to discover the Earth's magnetic field, innovative technologies such as the SMART Cable that measures signals emerging from the depths of the Earth from the inaccessible ocean floor, and the influence that tsunamis and volcanoes have on the landscape and our lives. Interactive laboratory | Stories of Earthquakes and Tsunamis. Telling to Learn October 24 - 31 | Weekdays: 9:00-16:00 | Saturday and Sunday: 10:00-19:00 Ammunition Store of the Doge's Palace | Piazza Matteotti, 9 Earthquakes and tsunamis are seismic events that have had and can continue to have a tragic impact in terms of human lives and radical changes in the territory. Knowing the most significant aspects of those that occurred in the past is a way to learn how to deal with future risks. Thanks to the support of interactive maps, images, videos, web applications and animations, visitors will learn more about the stories of tsunamis and earthquakes that occurred in Italy and around the world, exploring its most important aspects from a scientific and social point of view. Interactive laboratory | Can we really predict natural events? An open challenge to understand nature October 24 - 31 | Weekdays: 9:00-15:00 | Saturday: 10:00-17:30 Berio Library | Via del Seminario, 16 Extreme natural events can be predictable, but not always. Forecasts are, by their very nature, affected by large degrees of uncertainty, mainly linked to the difficulty of interpreting data and forecasting models. For this reason too, knowledge of the territory in which one lives and awareness of its dangerousness are essential to limit the impacts of natural events. This activity will transform visitors into weather forecasters for a day: a useful experience to reflect on the meaning of 'predictability' of extreme events such as floods or earthquakes and to understand the actions that, individually and as a community, we can take to reduce their effects, also taking into account the social and economic costs that each choice entails. Show | The Song of the Planet. Signals from Earth between Geophysics and Music November 1st | 19:00 PM The Claque of the Tosse Theater | Vicolo San Donato, 9 A show to discover the voice of our Planet: thanks to the evolutionary artificial intelligence Matra, a seismogram will transform into an auditory and visual element, leaving an exclusively scientific context and offering the public a unique sensorial experience. Researchers from the INGV will introduce the seismograms and will converse with the artist Filippo Gregoretti, to then begin the audiovisual performance of the artist who, supported by the sitarist Fabrizio Brua, will generate with Matra, on the basis of geoscientific data, a flow of music and images, in co-creation with performers. A unique, unpredictable and unrepeatable moment of shared creation between human and artificial, in the artistic interpretation of the planet's breath. Click here for more information and reservations
