The new edition of the event which every year brings together the world of school and that of scientific research is starting in Palermo
Back to Experience in Signa, the scientific event organized byPALERMOSCIENZA Association which from Thursday 4th to Tuesday 9th April, from 09:00 to 13:
The theme chosen this year by the eldest event scientific research of Southern Italy is theIntelligence, not only artificial but also emotional and visual, even reaching that of insects.
The common thread of the immersive experiences, workshops and shows scheduled will be the lives and works of great names in science and literature who, with their commitment, have investigated the various possible intelligences: Mary Shelley, Alan Turing, Marco Polo, Isaac Asimov , Frida Kahlo and Marie Curie.
The Palermo Section of the INGV will participate with a stand in which visitors will be shown some instruments with which the Institute's researchers observe and study the main active phenomena of planet Earth, such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, which have always inspired art , myths and literature.
In particular, the public will be able to observe:
- A scale model of planet Earth with its internal structure
- Models of a volcano, a fault and a volcanic fumarole
- The measurement of the concentration of carbon dioxide present in the breath. The researchers will explain how the same instrumentation used for the experiment is used both in the volcanological field and for environmental research.
Volcanic and non-volcanic rocks, coming from all over Sicily.
Friday 5th and Monday 8th April, at 9:00, visitors will be able to attend a seminar entitled “Mary Shelley and the eruption of the Tambora volcano”: Giorgio Capasso, researcher of the INGV Section of Palermo, will talk about the link between volcanoes, mythology and literature, with particular attention to the connection between the eruption of the Indonesian volcano Tambora and the famous novel "Frankenstein or the modern Prometheus" by Mary Shelley.
The teachers of the visiting schools will receive from the researchers books, brochures and teaching material created by the INGV Educational and Scientific Dissemination Laboratory and by EDURISK to support the training project and disseminate knowledge on seismic and volcanic risk among younger people.
