From 1 January 2024, the National Earthquake Observatory of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV-ONT) is led by Dr. Lucia Margheriti, First Researcher at INGV and former Head of the Operations Room Functional Unit of the ONT.

The new Director succeeds the engineer. Salvatore Stramondo who for about 7 years led the hub of Italian seismic monitoring.

"It is an honor for me to take on this role at INGV and to give my contribution in coordinating my colleagues at the National Earthquake Observatory. I will tackle this task with passion and commitment, I hope to further promote scientific research in the field of seismology and earth sciences, collaborating with the competent and talented ONT team. Together we will pursue scientific objectives, strengthen infrastructures and carry out seismic surveillance and tsunami warning services", he has declared Lucia Margherita.

"With great satisfaction”, highlighted the President of INGV Carlo Doglioni, "the ONT is led by a researcher who has always stood out for her constant commitment and dedication to scientific research. Under his leadership, the National Earthquake Observatory will continue to excel in seismic monitoring and surveillance and in the understanding of the terrestrial dynamics that influence Italy so much".
