INGV at the European Civil Protection Forum to present the activities of the ARISTOTLE-eENHSP project to support the preparation and response to risk from natural disasters and extreme weather events at a global level

The seventh edition of the European Civil Protection Forum, the important international event for meeting and exchanging ideas between professionals and policy makers in the field of European civil protection.
This year the ARISTOTLE-eENHSP project “European Natural Hazard Scientific Partnership”, coordinated byNational Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) together withAustrian Central Institute of Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) and funded by Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG-ECHO), will be present with its own corner at the SQUARE Congress Center which will host the Forum.
The conferences, workshops and laboratories of the event will be organized around 4 main nuclei:
> Strengthen Climate Resilience - Prepare for extreme weather events
> Protect our Citizens - Adapt to new risks
> Europe in the World - Overcoming geographical borders
> Embrace Innovation & Digitalisation - Share knowledge
The ARISTOTLE project, born as a "pilot project" in 2016, was renewed with the current name ARISTOTLE-eENHSP until 2024. Its objective is to provide the Emergency Response Coordination Center (Emergency Response Coordination Center - ERCC) of the European Union scientific opinion, 365 days a year 24 hours a day, on different natural risks worldwide: earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes, floods, extreme climatic conditions and fires.
“The ARISTOTLE-eENHSP project includes operational centers belonging to 17 European scientific institutions and two international organizations operating in the field of geophysics and meteorology”, explains Giovanna Forlenza, technologist at INGV e project manager of the project. “With more than 80 emergency activations worldwide and 343 natural disaster risk monitoring reports issued in the last four years, ARISTOTLE-eENHSP has proven effective and efficient in supporting disaster risk preparedness and response activities of the ERCC within the European Civil Protection System".
