Next Monday, May 12, 2025, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) will participate with its scientific and informative contribution to one of the most significant stages of the international event "Sicily 2025", organized by the Scuderia Ferrari Club of Riga (Latvia), in collaboration with the clubs of Luxembourg, Alessandria, Palermo, Sant'Alfio (CT) and Ribera (AG), with the patronage of the INGV.
“Sicily 2025” is proposed as a new immersive experience, in which travel, a passion for motors and the discovery of Sicilian culture, science and nature merge into a single itinerary.
During the day dedicated to Etna, the crews - aboard fifteen Ferraris and a Maserati, coming from Italy, France, Switzerland and Luxembourg - will be accompanied on the volcano by the technical-scientific staff of the INGV, with the aim of enhancing the route through an informative and scientific approach.
The afternoon itinerary on the highest active volcano in Europe includes three key stops:
-
Rifugio Citelli (1741 m above sea level): introduction to the environmental context of Etna and observation of the surrounding volcanic landscape;
-
Grotta dei Ladroni: informative stop on lava flow and the formation of volcanic cavities, by INGV experts;
-
Rifugio Sapienza (1900 m above sea level): walk and description of the Monti Silvestri area, with insights into the recent eruptive history of the volcano and monitoring activities.
Through these stages, the INGV intends to offer an accessible and engaging scientific narrative, enhancing Etna not only as a landscape symbol of Sicily, but also as an extraordinary natural laboratory for geophysical research and observation.
“Sicily 2025” represents a unique opportunity to tell the story of the Etna territory from an unprecedented perspective, in which the elegance of automotive design meets the strength and complexity of the volcano. An unrepeatable event, which will be documented through a rich video and photographic production, contributing to the promotion and enhancement of Sicily at an international level.
