Fawzi Doumaz, Senior Researcher at the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), has been appointed to the Algerian Conseil National Economique, Social et Environnemental (CNESE), the National Economic, Social and Environmental Council of the Presidency of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria.

The CNESE is the Algerian consultative body established to ensure that the country's political decisions take into account the opinions and interests of all citizens, not just political representatives. A bridge between the government and civil society, it aims to broaden participation in public debate on the most important issues for the country by strengthening democracy, promoting sustainable development and improving the quality of laws and regulations.

Born in Algeria, Fawzi Doumaz began his research career at the Centre de Recherche en Astronomie, Astrophysique et Géophysique (CRAAG) in Algiers. In 1996, he moved to Italy to start working on the generation of high-resolution numerical terrain models for geomorphological and seismotectonic studies.

As a member of the CNESE Commission dedicated to Algerians living abroad, Doumaz, former Director of the Museum of Geosciences of Rocca di Papa (INGV-MUGEOS) and Head of the Laboratory of Geo-Archaeometry and Experimental Geophysics of the INGV, will bring his expert contribution to political decisions regarding Geosciences, promoting and consolidating the exchange of knowledge and skills between Italy and Algeria, with particular attention to cutting-edge scientific and technological sectors.
