A delegation from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) recently took part in an official visit to the Northeastern University (NEU) in Shenyang (Liaoning Province, China), the result of an intense scientific collaboration started in 2018 within the DRAGON-4 and DRAGON-5 projects, funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Chinese National Remote Sensing Center, with the aim of promoting collaboration and knowledge exchange between Europe and China on natural hazards and possible applications based on Earth Observation and in-situ data.

The INGV team, composed of satellite data experts and volcanologists, presented the research activities and the main results obtained in these years of collaboration with NEU.

The Italian delegation had the opportunity to introduce INGV as a Research Institution and describe the Institute's multidisciplinary projects in the fields of volcanic, seismic and environmental monitoring.

Future research collaborations and the program of activities for the next few months were also discussed, officially inaugurating the DRAGON-6 project with a visit to two of the study areas planned by the nascent program: the largest open-pit coal mine in Asia, located in the city of Fushun, and the complex of monogenetic volcanoes of Longgang. The effects of the extensive and localized deformations that insist on these areas were also assessed.

The relationship between INGV and NEU will be consolidated by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, promoted by the Institute with the aim of facilitating the exchange of knowledge, data and research personnel, thus promoting the progress of scientific research.
