The rich program of workshops, seminars, games, activities and exhibitions enthralled visitors of all ages, offering a fascinating journey to discover the ocean and its fundamental importance for our planet.
From 6 to 8 June 2024, theNational Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) organized the long-awaited appointment with the “World Oceans Day: Know, Understand, Live Together”, an event that celebrated the World Oceans Day (WOD), established by the United Nations to raise public awareness of the impact of human actions on the ocean, a vital resource for the preservation of life on Earth.
This year's edition, already sponsored by local, national and international institutions, has also obtained one of the most prestigious awards conferred in our country, the Medal of the President of the Republic. This honor marked the appreciation of the Head of State Sergio Mattarella for the notable scientific and cultural interest represented by the event organized by INGV.
World Oceans Day saw an extraordinary participation of the members of the Joint Research Unit EMSO Italia and EMSO ERIC, with INGV once again promoting an initiative that brought together the entire national scientific community involved in the study of the ocean and the climate.
the event, held in Palermo, Rome and Lerici (SP), adopted a format in which science and art immersed visitors in the marine environment, allowing them to better understand this extraordinary resource and the possible actions to be taken for its conservation.
The event was a great success, with extensive public participation and high social media interaction. The three cities chosen as stages for the 2024 edition hosted numerous bodies and institutions, enriching the program with a wide variety of contributions.
The interventions of the representatives of local and national institutions further enhanced the event, highlighting its impact and importance.
