Received by the President of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) Carlo Doglioni, by the Director of the Earthquake Department Claudio Chiarabba, by the Director of the Environment Department Massimo Chiappini and by the Director of the National Earthquake Observatory (INGV-ONT) Lucia Margheriti, Dr. Gianni Letta, former Undersecretary of State at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, visited the Roman headquarters of the Institute.

Dr. Letta, in his important career, has on several occasions concretely supported research into national seismic danger and therefore also the activities of INGV, as well as having been an active protagonist during the reconstruction of the 2009 L'Aquila earthquake.

During the visit to the Seismic Room in Rome and, in connection, to the Operations Rooms of the Vesuvian Observatory in Naples and the Etna Observatory in Catania, the activities that the Institute carries out for seismic monitoring and surveillance were followed live, volcanic and tsunami warning across the entire national territory and part of the Mediterranean.

Guided by the researchers, the visit continued at some of the INGV laboratories and, in particular, in the Paleomagnetism Laboratory, in the GeoSAR Laboratories and in the High Pressure - High Temperature Laboratory.

"Welcoming Dr. Gianni Letta was an honor and a pleasure, retracing the Institute's many activities, from research in geosciences to activities aimed at reducing natural risks, without any interruption. In-depth knowledge of our planet is an essential tool for the better protection of citizens, their homes, and the procurement of natural resources, all elements necessary for economic-social development.
INGV intends to be an actor in increasing scientific research on the Earth to improve the quality of life for all of us”, declared the President Carlo Doglioni.
