Just finished the workshop "Observation of the deep sea: the Joint Research Unit EMSO Italy as an inclusive community", organized in Bologna by the Joint Research Unit (JRU) EMSO Italy, at the Institute of Polar Sciences of the National Research Council (ISP -CNR).
The objective of the workshop, in fact, was to increase the awareness of the organizations participating in the JRU EMSO Italia to create a stable and lasting synergy on material resources and know-how to advance towards a new vision and understanding of the deep marine environment. Among the topics discussed, the optimization and sharing of resources, technological development coordinated between national research bodies and the training of young researchers, technicians and professionals.
JRU EMSO Italia coordinates the participation of the Italian scientific community in the program of the European research infrastructure EMSO (European Multidisciplinary Seafloor and water column Observatory). It includes researchers from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), National Research Council (CNR), National Inter-university Consortium for Marine Sciences (CoNISMa), National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Economic Development Sustainable (ENEA), Hydrographic Institute of the Navy (IIM), National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN), Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA), National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics (OGS) and Zoological Station Anton Dohrn (SZN)
“Research infrastructures are fundamental means for pursuing ambitious objectives,” declared Carlo Doglioni, President of INGV, during the final Round Table. “The scientific community must unite around a cutting-edge scientific project: only in this way will we have the possibility of training good scientists and making infrastructures more effective in supporting research”.
